UNILAG Confers 12,000 Degrees, Honors Tech and Public Health Leaders

LAGOS — January 21, 2026 — The University of Lagos (UNILAG) graduated more than 12,000 students during its convocation ceremony on Tuesday, January 20, at the Jelili Omotola Halls.
Honorary Doctor of Science degrees were awarded to Adaora Udoji, founder of a renewable energy startup serving rural Africa, and Dr. Hassan Bello, the epidemiologist credited with leading Nigeria’s successful containment of the 2023 Lassa fever outbreak.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Folashade Ogunsola addressed the Class of 2025 as “resilient architects of a new Nigeria,” urging graduates to use their education as a “toolkit to build solutions.”
More than 287 students graduated with First-Class honours. David Okonkwo of the Faculty of Engineering, who achieved a perfect 5.0 CGPA, was named the overall best-graduating student.
The ceremony also marked the launch of the “UNILAG Forward 2030” campaign, a new drive to strengthen research funding and industry partnership
